Lavaca Bay Foundation

About Us
Located in Calhoun County, Texas, the Lavaca Bay ecosystem is one of the treasures of our community, providing both recreational and commercial benefits. Several organizations exist to protect and preserve different areas of surrounding marine environments, but no one is solely focused on Lavaca Bay. Lavaca Bay Foundation was formed in March 2018, dedicated to protecting and preserving this valuable natural resource.

Our goal is to work with other organizations and individuals who represent both commercial and recreational interests, so that together we can provide an organized and unified voice to advocate for Lavaca Bay.

How to Get Involved
Almost everyone who lives in Port Lavaca and surrounding areas benefits from the bay: anglers, boaters, birders, seafood lovers, users of marine transportation, and those who just like to go look at the water. An endeavor such as ours relies on community support and input. We invite you to join us and work together to preserve our Lavaca Bay marine ecosystem.
We will be sponsoring projects to collect data and educate the community regarding the impacts of various activities on the bay and the actions needed to maintain water quality and marine life.

A way to be involved is to become a subscriber. Subscribers make an annual donation and may attend meetings and receive email updates about projects and events.

Donations will fund data collection and education projects. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, and donations are tax-deductible.

CURRENT ISSUES

The Matagorda Ship Channel Improvement Project (MSCIP) has the potential to help or hurt our community. Please read the facts and Stand Up to Protect The Bay. We’re not against the project; we just want them to Do It Right!
