Do It Right to Protect the Bay
FACTS DO MATTER!
The Bay’s current health is ‘Vulnerable’.
The Matagorda Channel Improvement Project (MSCIP) , if done poorly, could be a tipping point.
We know what needs to be done to mitigate the risks.
Stand Up for the Bay
The Project must:
- Eliminate open bay disposal of spoil to protect oysters and seagrasses, including nearby bayous and lakes.
- Maximize beneficial use of spoil to provide coastal resiliency.
- Ensure existing mercury pollution is confined to protect human health.
- Protect vital Pass Cavallo and adjacent nursery marshes.
- Ensure Jetty integrity to reduce risk of a catastrophic event.
- Protect current economic benefits of the Bay: commercial / recreational fishing, ecotourism and our coastal way of life.
- Increase transparency in MSCIP design and implementation to increase public trust.
